My friend Parkinson

25 years of painting together

Explore!

Never stop doing what you love to do!

My dad started painting as a retirement project in his late 50s - and was diagnosed with PD soon after.
He signed up for a painting class in continuing education on Monday evenings and stayed with it for 24 years! They were called the Monday Painters. He loved colours and used them boldly! He never stopped painting until a week before his death.
Thank you, dad, for so much beauty and inspiration!

He had a long battle with accepting his diagnosis until he came across Wigand Lange's book "Mein Freund Parkinson" ('My friend Parkinson'). He befriended his uninvited company and gradually adjusted to a life with this challenging companion. It was not without fights and frustration but he always was a very social person with an amazing gift - the ability to connect with people without judgement or preoccupation. His circle of friends included people of all ages and walks of life. His birthday parties will be well remembered. He was a very generous man and a very good cook, too! And a good father - thank you, Herr Papa!
